This Time Next Week …

R.is.E

R.is.E LogoThis time next week it will be all over, R.is.E will have just finished their second set, the winners of the silent auctions will have been announced, everyone will have their raffle prizes and there should be at least a couple of the males in the audience that are super smooooth (and I don’t mean with their chat up lines!). Hey, we will even know Monkey’s name and he will have a new home!

Those of you that are able will be able to party on into the early hours at Club Bliss, but the Memory Fest part of the evening will have wound up. The cameras will have stopped rolling and the bands will have packed away … until next year? Well, lets wait and see how successful it will have been. Wouldn’t it be great to see Memory Fest become an annual event on the calendar, raising awareness and funds through Classic Rock for Alzheimer Scotland and Dementia UK?

Remember if you are unable to make it next week, you can always leave a donation on our Just Giving page, if you are able. Every penny is appreciated.

Monkey Here Again

Upside Down Monkey

Upside Down MonkeyHello, Monkey here again! You might have seen me earlier, I’m still looking for a name, one of you lucky people coming along to the Memory Fest event is going to choose one for me.

In the meantime, I am just lounging around and waiting and waiting.

I wonder what my name will be, I hope it’s something sexy. ‘Cos I am sexy, don’t you think? Go on, admit it, you think I am don’t you?

By the way, did you know? As well as the the £42 that the person who picks my name gets … they also get to take me home with them too. Can you believe that? I can’t wait to see where I will be living. I hope it’s somewhere nice, with someone nice.

Hope you’ve bought your tickets, have you bought them? They are available you know. Cathy and Stephen are selling them. Claire and Mo have got some to sell. Lisa is also selling them and Carol, nearly forgot about Carol (how could I forget about Carol?). Oh, you can also buy them at Bar Bliss too, and on-line. Loads of places, so you really have no excuse .. remember you have to be there to be in with a chance of taking me home!

Well, I’m off to bed now. It’s tiring all this hanging around upside down. See you soon!

Our Infomercial

BLG Video and Audio Productions

Well, what an exciting afternoon with BLG Video and Audio Productions making our very first Infomercial. These are the guys that are going to be filming Memory Fest ’16 on 1st May 2016 at Club Bliss, Kirkintilloch, Scotland.

Richard was very professional and we are really pleased with the results. We hope you are too, and that you will help us to share it far and wide to get the word out about our event.

Steel Threads

Steel Threads

Yass! Jacqui and Steve have given Memory Fest ’16 another signed CD, this time by the brilliant Steel Threads.

Steel Threads are an alternative Acoustic Rock band using Guitar, Violins, Bass and Vocal harmony to create uniqueness.

An original band, Steel Threads perform their own unique blend of acoustic rock and folk. Formed in 2011 they pride themselves on their strong songwriting and energetic performances.

Steel Threads - The Band

  • Neil Wardleworth – Guitar / Vocals / Drum
  • Laura Wilcockson – Violin / Vocals
  • Tracy Beardmore – Bass / Violin / Vocals

The band’s debut album ‘Timing Is Everything‘ was released in June 2012 and the band has gigged throughout the UK, building a strong following ever since. The strength of support is evidenced by the fact that the second album ‘For Those Who Are Left‘ was pledge funded by fans and reached its target much more quickly than the band expected. In October 2014 the band released a ‘Live EP‘, featuring songs from the first 2 albums performed live as a duo.

Their third studio album, The Rule Of Three was released in December 2015 and it is this one we will have up for grabs in our raffle on 1 May 2016 at Club Bliss. Make sure you buy plenty of raffle tickets to be in with a chance to win this great CD.

Press Comments include:

  • “Love the contrasting vibe which the strings bring” Cherrie McIlwaine, BBC Ulster
  • “Loving the use of fiddles … these guys do it so well” Clive Rawlings, Blues Matters
  • “occupying the unexplored territory between The Waterboys and Whitesnake”, R2 Magazine
  • “They are passionate and energetic, and make a big sound. You’ll like them” Dai Jeffries, R2 Magazine

Captain Horizon

Captain Horizon CD

Memory Fest ’16 have been provided with a signed copy of Imitation Sun, one of Captain Horizon’s CDs!

Captain Horizon are an alternative rock band from the West Midlands. Over the course of three EPs and two albums they’ve invented a sound entirely their own, bringing a wide range of styles together to create an instantly accessible identity.

Captain Horizon has accomplished something unique… they have harnessed lightning in a jar.

Captain Horizon enjoy a well-deserved reputation as one of the most exciting live bands on the circuit, with high-energy showmanship, soaring melodies and precise vocal harmonies captivating the attention of audiences across the country.

Captain Horizon

Captain Horizon are:

  • Steve “Whitty” Whittington – lead vocals
  • Joshua Watson – guitars, backing vocals
  • James “Mez” Merrix – drums, percussion
  • Alex Thomson – bass, backing vocals

The band was born in the summer of 2008 when Josh and Alex started writing songs that brought together the high energy and intricacy of influences such as Incubus, Radiohead, Tool and Porcupine Tree, and the classic swagger of stadium bands like U2, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd and AC/DC. Mez joined shortly after and set about bringing his unique brand of precise and original drumming to the music. Whitty was the last piece of the puzzle, injecting thunderous vocals, unstoppable self-belief and the ability to charm any crowd before him.

This fantastic item (I’ve listened to it and it is fantastic!) will be available as one of our Raffle Prizes, thanks to Jacqui and Steve Snowball in Macclesfield.

The Amused Owls

The Amused Owls

The Amused OwlsWe can now confirm that The Amused Owls will be opening up for us at Memory Fest on 1st May 2016 at Club Bliss in Kirkintilloch.

Recently formed in the South side of Glasgow, 4 local guys, Dan, John, Ross & Tam, who just love the fun of playing music that has its origins in Rock and Roll. The Amused Owls will want you to dance and have fun!

Remember, we are raising awareness and much needed funds for Alzheimer Scotland and Dementia UK, through Classic Rock and we understand the tunes you will hear from this live band will be some of the best tracks, some that you won’t have heard for a while!

Our Logo!

Memory Fest '16 Logo

You know when you see something, and that makes you think of something else, similar but tweaked, and kinda like, different …. ?

Well, that’s how I felt when Iain showed me an idea for our Logo that he had mocked up on his phone. I liked it, but it was too ‘busy’ and there were too many colours, and well, it just wasn’t quite what I wanted.

Memory Fest '16 LogoBut it set me thinking, and sketching, and after pulling my hair out a bit, I came up with the design I was happy with. I hope you like it too.

Its overall shape is a plectrum, it shows an outline of someone thinking about and remembering music, there is a classic electric guitar at the bottom and at the top is the forget-me-not symbol, all simple in purple and black outline – to me it sums up what we are trying to do with Memory Fest ’16.

Our Hosts

Our Hosts - Club Bliss

Well, we needed a venue for Memory Fest ’16 that could hold enough people, provide a suitable stage for at least two live bands to perform some terrific Classic Rock and be easily accessible to everyone – we found one!

Following a meeting with Ryan at Club Bliss we are able to confirm the venue is booked for 1 May 2016 and the doors to Memory Fest ’16 will open at 7 pm that night.

Yes, we know its a Sunday night, but as it is a Bank Holiday the next day we hope that many of you will be able to play out … its not really a school night for most people (carers and nurses excepted of course!)

Memory Fest ’16 – The Launch!

Memory Fest Launch

Morning everyone

Hope you all had a great weekend! February already, can’t believe how quickly the time is moving (is that a sign I am getting old, I wonder?)

I’ve had quite an exciting weekend with the ‘launch’ or at least announcement that Memory Fest will be happening this year! OK, I know you are thinking, what is Memory Fest?

Well, it’s an idea that I had last year, 2015, and it is finally coming to life, I hope I don’t bore you all with it over the next 3 months.

I am organising, with help from a team of like minded people, a Live Music Gig at Club Bliss in Kirkintilloch on 1st May 2016 – raising awareness and much needed funds for Dementia UK and Alzheimer Scotland through Classic Rock!

We will have two live Bands on the evening, with some other potentially very interesting activities planned to go along side and during the intervals.

Our Facebook page is live now, if you have time please have a look at it and maybe share it amongst your ‘friends’. The more support we receive the more funds we can raise. Oh yes, there is a Twitter thingy too, but not sure how much this will be used.

I realise that not everyone will be able to come along on the night and so have also organised online fundraising through Just Giving so that people can pledge on line (I think it is also possible to set up a text donation facility too but I haven’t got that sorted yet!).

There is still a lot of planning to do yet but wanted to let you guys know sooner rather than later so hopefully you can get the date in your diary.

Wish me luck, please!

Cheers

Stephen
