Closing The Books!

The End of Memory Fest '16

The End of Memory Fest '16Hello Everyone!

Well we are almost three months after the first Memory Fest event and on 1 August 2016 we are going to close the books and make arrangements to hand over the monies that we raised for our Charities.

Sales of the brilliant DVD have been much slower than we expected and to be honest we are more than a little disappointed with that, however life goes on and we do have to draw the line. If you do want to buy one of these then you have another few days to get your money to us. Remember, only £9.99 plus postage and packaging if required at £1.27.

The Silent Auction items are still available, we must move these before the end of July so please send us an email with your best offer – grab a last minute bargain!

The winner of the Wedding Video Auction decided not to go ahead with it after all, so it was offered to the second highest bidder. Unfortunately, circumstances meant that they too were unable to go ahead with it and so we will keep this for the next event.

Thanks again, everyone for your involvement, please get your bids in for these last couple of items so that we can close the books at the end of the month on a high!

A Massive Thanks!

Thank YouYes, we mean it, a massive thanks to each and everyone of you that support the first Memory Fest gig last night at Club Bliss.

We said we wanted to raise awareness and funds through Classic Rock for Dementia UK and Alzheimer Scotland and that’s just what we did!

The Bands were just great, The Amused Owls opening the show followed by two sets from R.is.E.

The raffle took a little (OK, a lot) longer than we expected, but we got there in end and I know everyone was very pleased with their prizes.

We even found out, through winner John Rodger, that Monkey was called George! John very kindly donated the prize money and Monkey, sorry, George, back to Memory Fest and so we had to find someone else willing to give him a home (that’s George not John!). This we did before, the end of the night, and lucky George went home with Ruth who gave us a lovely donation for the pleasure.

The winning bid in the auction for the Wedding Video was one that we had received on line and we have been in touch with the lady who made that bid today to let her know that she has been successful. We are just waiting for her to confirm her full details and then we can make the necessary arrangements.

At the opening of the event we only had one victim, sorry, volunteer for the waxing however when we announced it was taking place, Claire and Claire ended up with a queue of people wanting to join in. Thanks to all those involved for being game and joining in.

Cathy, Lisa, Sammi and Carl worked brilliantly together looking after the raffle tickets, the Monkey card, and the silent auctions. We had Suhail, from Home Instead Senior Care, on the door taking your tickets or selling you some if you didn’t already have one. Bernie, of Sweeney’s Shutter fame was amazing taking photos all night and of course, Richard from BLG Video and Audio productions, who set up and operated three video cameras throughout the event. What a great team of people pulling together!

Thanks to sponsors, Home Instead Senior Care and Aon. Thanks to all of the individuals and companies that donated prizes for our raffle. Especially thanks to our wonderful audience who came along, dug deep in to their pockets and helped us to raise £1,494.53 so far (there are still some funds to come in that we haven’t included yet). We are truly grateful to everyone, thank you , thank you, thank you!

Today’s The Day!

Keep Calm

Keep CalmAfter all the preparation and planning it has finally arrived, today is the day the first Memory Fest Gig will take place, raising funds and awareness through Classic Rock for Alzheimer Scotland and Dementia UK.

If you haven’t heard anything about this yet, where have you been since January?

Its taking place this evening between 7 pm and 11 pm at Club Bliss in Kirkintilloch, Scotland.

We have two bands playing live on stage, first of all The Amused Owls and then, headlining for us, R.is.E, both bands playing some brilliant Classic Rock tracks!

We have been knocked out with the prizes and auction items that have been donated, thanks to everyone for these. There will be some happy people going home after the event this evening.

Still looking for a couple of hairy men for the Waxing, if we don’t get any volunteers this evening (and our Claire’s team will be quite persuasive) then we will have to cancel this activity, which will be shame.

Remember doors will be open at 7 pm with The Amused Owls onstage at 7.30 pm so please don’t be late (I have seen their set list, you really don’t want to miss it).

If you can’t make it to the event tonight you can still make a donation on our Just Giving page, which allows you to choose which of the two charities your donation goes to. Thank you so much to the people that have already donated in this way, it is really appreciated.

Hopefully see you tonight for a great party!

Old Rocker?

Velvet Underwriters

Don’t worry, his words, not mine!

Velvet UnderwritersWho is he, some of you might be asking? Well his name is Andrew (or Andy) Tunnicliffe and he is currently the CEO of Aon Risk Solutions in the UK. By day he leads 1400 colleagues across 17 offices, but apart from that, Andy is a very keen and experienced musician. He has played bass for over 30 years and plays double bass and fretless bass too!

He is currently in an eight piece band playing jazz funk and soul hits as well as current chart hits (although previously has also played some classic rock and still loves it!). The band, The Velvet Underwriters, have played together for 10 years in the London area winning the prestigious Insurance Battle of the Bands in 2009.

More recently they were the headline act at the 2014 Mistletoe Ball, held at the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane and played in front of a 2,500 crowd at the Yately Gig on the Green music festival in 2015.

Unfortunately, Andy is unable to attend our own Memory Fest ’16 so I was hoping he could perhaps donate a CD of their music that we could auction or raffle …. can you believe they haven’t actually produced one yet? I think that might have to be added to a to do list somewhere!

Still wanting to help, however, Andy has made a great offer to give someone a lesson for a couple of hours covering all bass techniques, including plectrum playing, pizzicato finger technique and slap bass. This will probably take place somewhere close to Glasgow the next time he is in the area (within the next few months) so the lucky winner will have to be a bit flexible.

Come on then, how much are you willing to offer for this opportunity? We will run the auction on the night, however if you are unable to attend and interested in having a lesson with the bass player from The Velvet Underwriters just get in touch with us and let us know what you would pay for the privilege. I’m told it could also be offered for a group of up to 4 people if this would be better for anyone.

This Time Next Week …

R.is.E

R.is.E LogoThis time next week it will be all over, R.is.E will have just finished their second set, the winners of the silent auctions will have been announced, everyone will have their raffle prizes and there should be at least a couple of the males in the audience that are super smooooth (and I don’t mean with their chat up lines!). Hey, we will even know Monkey’s name and he will have a new home!

Those of you that are able will be able to party on into the early hours at Club Bliss, but the Memory Fest part of the evening will have wound up. The cameras will have stopped rolling and the bands will have packed away … until next year? Well, lets wait and see how successful it will have been. Wouldn’t it be great to see Memory Fest become an annual event on the calendar, raising awareness and funds through Classic Rock for Alzheimer Scotland and Dementia UK?

Remember if you are unable to make it next week, you can always leave a donation on our Just Giving page, if you are able. Every penny is appreciated.

On Line Auction!

Wedding Video Auction

As I teased on Facebook earlier this week, we can now confirm that Memory Fest have been given a fantastic item to help us raise more money for our chosen charities, Dementia UK and Alzheimer Scotland.

BLG Video & Audio ProductionsBLG Video & Audio Productions, the people that will be filming our event, have donated one of their Wedding Packages. Not just any one of them though, their top package! The Gold Package is valued at £850 and is described as the package to choose if ‘you require every possible moment of your special day captured‘ – have a look at their website for full details (unfortunately the offer is only available to ceremonies taking place in Scotland and the North of England)

This is an amazing opportunity for a lucky couple to obtain a fantastic memento of their special day and help our great cause at the same time.

From today until 12 noon on 1st May 2016 you will be able to bid by email to win this fabulous gift. We have set up a special email address, weddingvideo@memoryfest.co.uk for you to use and we will monitor this address for the next couple of weeks to see what bids we receive. You can also make a bid on the evening of the event at Club Bliss between 7:30 pm and around 10 pm when we will make the announcement to let you know who the highest bidder has been and who has won this auction.

SPECIAL NOTE: Realising that not everyone will be getting married or will know someone getting married then BLG Video & Audio Productions will consider substituting this offer for the production of a Music Video for a Band or Solo artist, just mention this preference when you submit your bid by email or on the night at the event.

If you prefer to send you bid using the form below, then please do – you can enter as many times as you want between now and the closing date, the highest bid will be the one that wins!

Entry is free, however if you would like to leave a token donation, perhaps you could do this on our Just Giving page?

Silent Auction – Whisky

3 Litre Whisky Bottle

3 Litre Whisky BottleAnother lot for our ‘silent auction’ at the Memory Fest ’16 gig will be a three litre bottle of Teacher’s Scramble Scotch Whisky.

This has been donated by Shirley and George (my mum and dad) and we believe it is probably between 20 and 25 years old, but is unopened and has been stored in a cool dark cabinet during that time.

How much would you give for this massive bottle? If you are interested, make sure you are there at Club Bliss on 1 May 2016 so that you can enter your bid.

If you cannot get to the event and want to make a bid on line, please send an e-mail to us before 22 April 2016 and we will include it on the night as an email bid.

Silent Auction – Avon Basket

Basket of Avon Goodies

Basket of Avon GoodiesMany thanks to Sam and Carl Wright for donating this fabulous basket of Avon Products to Memory Fest ’16!

Apparently, there’s about £150 worth of products in it and so we will be holding a ‘silent auction’ on the night, haven’t decided on the starting price yet.

I won’t list everything that’s in there, but it does include bubble baths, jewellery, nail stuff, sprays, lipsticks, eye liner, I could go on, but I won’t! Have a look on the evening when you get to the venue and then make an offer during the auction.

Somebody will be able to go home with a terrific prize! Maybe it could be for you, a little bit of pamper time? Perhaps you know someone with a birthday coming up that would appreciate this as a gift? Whatever the reason, let’s hope we get a great outcome for the Charities on the 1 May 2016!
